Frequently Asked Questions
Why is a Home Session so long?
The Home Sessions last upwards of six hours. This is so we can take things nice and slow and relaxed - think of it more as inviting a friend over to hang out rather than a photoshoot. After I’ve arrived and everyone is settled I’ll take some photos, then I’ll stop and chat over cups of tea and playing with the kids, and I’ll take some more photos. I can guarantee you will soon not even bat an eyelid when I lift my camera. Working in this way gives us the most natural photographs, documenting the moments of your life that make it so incredibly special.
Why do you shoot on film?
Short answer: I like the way it makes me work and I like the way it looks.
Long answer: To me, film is perfectly imperfect. It is a slower, more thought-out process. It is the nostalgia of a family scrapbook.
I’ve been using the same makes and models of cameras for the past 18 years - I know them like the back of my hand, I can set the correct shutter speed and aperture without even thinking about it. Apparently once you’ve devoted 10,000 hours to something, then you can call yourself an expert. I wouldn’t call myself an expert in anything, but using these cameras, that have been in my hands for almost two decades, would definitely be up there.
I’m really interested, but I hate having my photo taken?
99% of adults say the exact same thing. I hate having my photo taken too if someone shoves a camera in my face and yells “cheese!”. This is the reason I run the sessions in the way that I do, to put you at ease. There’s no need for fake smiles, because we’ll be sure to capture the real ones.
My house is messy and not ‘instagram-ready’?
So is mine! I guarantee even the pristine homes we see on Instagram, if you were to pan the camera around you would see a pile of stuff that they’ve moved out of shot. We want to capture what home is to you.
